Clove is the rich, brown, dried unopened flower bud of Syzgium Aromaticum, an evergreen tree in the Myrtle family. Clove has a strong aroma and a fiery burning taste. It is native to the Molluca islands of North East Indonesia. Clove stem is the stem of the clove bud flower. Normally, the stem is separated from the flower bud during the drying and sorting process. It is however rich in oil (5-8%) and preferred as a cheaper source to obtain clove oil.
Usage :
For pharmaceutical care : clove is useful to treat coughs and other respiratory disorders, sore throats and headaches, to relieve nausea and vomitting, to correct flatulence and to excite languid digestion. The oil used as a local analgesic for easing dental pain. For food care : clove is used for salad dressings, desserts, gingerbread, cookies, applesauce, muffins, cakes, and other sweets . Clove is also very popularly used to make Kretek cigarettes in Indonesia.
